What are the benefits of private therapy?

Private therapy allows you to choose a Practitioner who suits you, the frequency of your sessions, and your choice of psychotherapy and techniques. I offer immediate access to a quality service in a comfortable, confidential environment.

Which therapy is right for me?

There is a wide range of psychotherapies available which can be confusing when you are looking for effective help. I offer a choice of several modern therapies and techniques and will work with you to decide which is most suitable for overcoming your specific issues. I will explain the benefits of different forms of psychological intervention and how they work, in simple, easy to understand language about how your brain works.

Can I bring someone with me?

If you would like someone to accompany you, they are welcome to stay for our introductory chat at the first session, but once our work begins, they are asked to go for a coffee or a walk nearby so that we can get to know each other and I can gather the information I need to help you. They can return and meet up with you at the end of your session. If you are attending with your child under 16 years of age you will stay with them throughout.

How long will it take?

Change can happen quickly or more gradually depending on many factors, including motivation, the severity and complexity of problems and how ambitious your goals are. During your initial consultation session you will be given advice once I have gathered the necessary information.

Is it confidential?

Yes – I work to strict confidentially guidelines in the same way as you would expect when you visit your doctor or hospital consultant. Your notes remain entirely confidential and no-one else will ever see them unless you give me permission to speak to others, I am required to disclose information by law, or I believe there is a risk to you or others. I am registered as a data controller with the Information Commission in the UK and abide by General Data Protection Regulation legislation. You will be given a copy of my Privacy Notice to sign at your initial appointment, which outlines this in more detail.

What do I have to do?

You agree to be open and honest during your sessions and to prioritise your appointments. You will need to fully engage with the work we do both during your sessions and sometimes at home, completing interesting tasks that reinforce what has been achieved. You will need to commit to a minimum of 2 sessions to work with me.

What happens in a session?

Session content varies from one person to another depending on their situation. Work is always solution focussed and takes place in the ‘here and now’. You’ll need to commit to change, and to challenging old ways of thinking that are no longer serving you well – but I will be guiding and supporting you all the way.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are scheduled for 1 hour. The initial consultation session can be longer and I allow up to 90 minutes.

How do I pay?

I accept payment by cash or cheque or you can pay in advance by BACS.

Can I have therapy online?

If you can’t visit my therapy room in York, I may be able to work with you online. This service is only available if you live in the UK. You will be sent a meeting link for each session. You must have a strong internet connection and a quiet room with good screen visibility and sound, where you will not be disturbed. For online work, you are required to pay in advance to seal your commitment to our work together.

How much will it cost?

You can choose to Pay As You Go and book 2 sessions or commit to a Personal Development Programme at discounted session prices. You can find details of these Programmes on the Coaching page. Please contact me for detailed pricing information.

What is the first step?

I am always happy to talk with potential clients. I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation to help you decide that I am the right person to work with you. Alternatively I can email you further information about the way I work. Get in touch today and let me know how I can help you.

How do I make an appointment?

The easiest way to contact me is by email. I respond as soon as possible, usually the same day.
I am contactable by phone when I am not working with a client. If you leave a message for me I will respond as soon as I can.

What are your working hours?

My working hours are 09:30 to 18:00 Monday to Thursday. Appointments are sometimes available in the evenings and at weekends by special arrangement.
